The OSI Board has initiated the following projects to improve the quality of the Open Source model for developers, users, business people, and the public sector.
  • The License Approval Process is the mechanism by which licenses graduate to the list of OSI-approved licenses. Historically, this has been one of the major efforts of the OSI Board.
  • The License Proliferation project aims to simplify and streamline the application and selection of open source licenses based on the principle that sometimes less (fewer, actually) is more.
  • The Membership project looks at how we may wish to change the governance structure of the OSI to increase its capacity and strengthen its role within the community by strengthening the role of the community within the OSI.
  • The Open Standards project is defining how Open Standards can be construed so that they do not discriminate against Open Source.
