"A week ago, I wrote that Sun will regain control in the server market by making Solaris 10 open source. On paper this looked logical. Tens of thousands of hits and a flood of reactions from the Linux community later, things look rather different to me.
Looking at Sun’s announcement as a non-technical person, it looked to me that Sun is planning to put all the elements in place to be successful again in the lower end of the server market: Making Solaris 10 free and open source, compatible with the x86 platform and a focus on service contracts very much like Red Hat and Novell.
This challenging conclusion got an enormous amount of interest and prompted a lot of people to write reactions both here on YEALD as well directly to me."
