"Yesterday evening I received disturbing news. The "CTO" of Munich, Wilhelm Hoegner, informed me that due to the green party asking about the possible impact of softwarepatents on the Linux-Migration the work on migration has effectively been stopped.
The city of Munich is now doing research to find out about the possible financial impact of softwarepatents on the migration.
As you all (should) know, we already have est. 30.000 softwarepatents in europe. These patents have been granted without respecting the current laws that explicitly denies the patentability of software."
